About

kwonny (she/her b.1988, New York) is a Korean-American figurative artist working in both digital and traditional mediums. Rich in symbolism and folklore motifs, her canvases feature animals and mythic figures that are often depicted in fight or flight. Negative space functions not only as a compositional device but as a conceptual one - highlighting tension between balance and instability, fragile ecological relationships, and the weight of human existence on our environment. She began creating work while in Australia in 2020 and now lives in Seattle, traveling frequently between the two countries and pulling inspiration from both. Her work has been exhibited in Australia, the United Kingdom, Los Angeles and Seattle.
